Why Vegan?

What is a veganism? Veganism is a way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food and any other purpose.

“If you don’t like seeing pictures of violence towards animals being posted, you need to help stop the violence, not the pictures.” – Johnny Depp

Would you eat a dog? Would you eat a cat? Would you eat a rabbit? Would you eat a horse? Would you eat a cow? Would you eat a pig? If you’re a meat eater how do you differentiate between which animals it’s ‘ok’ to eat and which it isn’t? The only reason people think it’s acceptable to eat animals is because society says so, but we’ve moved on we no longer live in caves and need to eat anything we can get our mouths around. There is no reason at all for killing innocent animals to make food when we can easily and sustainably make food from plant products. The truth isn’t always easy to stomach I get that, but does that mean it’s alright to turn a blind eye to the horrific things that are happening all over the world to put food on your plate?

“Veganism is not just a diet or lifestyle. It is a basic prerequisite for anyone who wishes to start caring seriously about animals, including humans. It is a moral and political commitment to non-violence.”- Ken Hopes

You can’t argue with the cold hard facts. Living a 100% plant based vegan diet is one of the healthiest diets there is! Whatever people might tell you, you do not need meat or dairy to live or to thrive, quite the opposite really, millions of vegans agree you have increased energy, look younger for longer and have longer life expectancy, to me that sounds like thriving. A well rounded plant based diet is rich in protein, iron, calcium and many other essential vitamins and minerals. Due to the low saturated fat and high fibre a vegan diet can help to tackle obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

“…Humans have no need for animal products, and the increasing number of vegans on the planet is a testament to how easy it is to live a healthy, fulfilling life without participating in the systematic abuse and unnecessary killing that goes on in the animal industry every day.”- Angel Flinn

Society on the whole is pushing towards a greener life, from recycling to using less water we are all fully aware of the impact of climate change. The production of meat and other animal products has massive repercussions on our environment. A vast amount of deforestation and habitat loss is due to the high requirement for land for meat production. One of the most effective things a person can do to lower their carbon footprint is to avoid all animal products.

“If you don’t take care of this the most magnificent machine that you will ever be given…where are you going to live?” – Karyn Calabrese

Plant based living is the most sustainable option for our planet. A plant based diet takes up only a third of the land needed to support a meat and diary diet.

“There is something about veganism that is not easy, but the difficulty is not inherent in veganism, but in our culture.” – Will Tuttle

“There is no fundamental difference between man and animals in their ability to feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery.” – Charles Darwin

If it’s important to you, you will find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.
