It’s coming up to the end of 2017 and if you’re anything like me, this time of year tends to get pretty manic. However, if I want to keep what sanity I have left until the new year I know how important it is to take some time out. I plan to take a week or so off from Acting and blogging over Christmas, so I have the chance to have some real down time. I have always struggled to switch off and I’m constantly being told to take a break, but I feel so guilty if I’m not constantly working so I’ve put together this list of three things I’m going to do over this holiday season to insure my brain gets the rest it so desperately needs.
I have this image of myself soaking in a bubble bath, smothered in a face mask and with a gin and tonic in my hand and I’m determined to make it reality. I always plan to give myself time off, but when it comes to it I rarely manage it. However, I know that come the start of the new year I’ll be a lot more motivated and productive if I have really set some time aside to relax and give myself a little TLC. I am going to set a reminder on my phone to do my 10 minutes of meditation every morning and then every night I’m going to read before bed rather than scrolling through Instagram to ensure I wind down.
I think it was in a vlog I watched of the Michalaks a while back, but Hannah and Stef mentioned they were trying a black out evening. They switched off their phones, tablets and laptops and enjoyed a night technology free. This is my plan for this festive season, although I try most nights to have a tech free couple of hours, in reality I struggle to do so when I’ve been in rehearsal all day and then have come back to an inbox full of emails and an empty draft folder on my blog. However Christmas is the best time in my option to put down twitter and live in the moment. I haven’t seen my family in over 3 months now because of how busy I’ve been, so for the two weeks I’m with them I plan to make every second count.
As much as I’m an advocate for meditation this isn’t for everyone and there are other ways you can gain a calm mind. I find one of the best ways to get some head space is to get creative. I spend all my time either in shows/filming or writing blog posts. So when I’m in need of some time off I find the best thing to do is get my creative juices flowing in a different way. This weekend I used my time off to get creative using some products from Reeves. They have a vast range of products from water colours to acrylics to pastels, so they have you covered if you fancy trying something new and getting creative this Christmas. I also think if you’re looking for presents for people, there is nothing better than giving them something that allows them to have a little bit of time off from their busy lives. So whether they’re a budding artist or a stick man wonder, Reeves products could give them that little break they so desperately crave.
I hope these tips have prompted you to take a break this coming Christmas and have maybe inspired you to try something new and get creative. If you order any of the new Reeves collections be sure to let me know and show me what you create. Happy relaxing!
